In 2020 we conducted a research pilot project to evaluate the efficacy of a textural repellent (sand and paint mixture) on tree damage caused by beaver and beaver tree felling in Fish Creek Provincial Park. The use of a textural repellent is a management technique that would enable coexistence in a situation where beaver may be otherwise lethally removed. Upon further review of the ingredients in the paint used, along with all other adhesives that are available, we deemed the risk of toxic effects to beavers was too high to recommend this technique as a management technique even though it is used in other jurisdictions.
